Designated coffee time

What better way to stretch your legs and catch up with colleagues about work and play-related things than setting up a designated time of day to walk together to your local coffee spot for a quick pick-me-up? You’ll get a change of scenery, feel refreshed and have a chance to catch up on the latest gossip while exploring the many cafes and coffee roasters dotted around central Christchurch. Check out our favourites.

Group fitness

There’s no excuse to not be excited about a supercharged lunchtime workout! With so many inner-city fitness clubs (we love Les Mills, Koha Fitness and F45) offering 45-60-minute lunchtime classes during the week, grab a few colleagues and get your fitness on with some feel-good group fitness.

Lunchtime running clubs

If being active is more your thing then there’s heaps of awesome running routes around the CBD for you and your running buddies to explore. Ditch the desk lunch and get your team down to our glorious Hagley Park to explore the daffodils and enjoy the fresh air. Whether you’re a slow jogger or a lean machine, there’s a running route to suit your speed and distance. Try a gentle run around the central city starting at the bottom of Cashel Mall and out over the Bridge of Remembrance, along the Avon to the tip of the Botanical Gardens then back down Worcester Boulevard or at the elite end of the scale, challenge yourself to the Hagley Figure of 8 with 10 kilometres of beautiful parklands around the perimeter of North and South Hagley Park.

Boxing

What better way to wake yourself up and release any workplace stress than with a lunchtime boxing class! We LOVE the guys at 1 More Round Boxing Fitness Centre and it’s so much fun to pull on some boxing gloves and go a few rounds with your teammates at their central city gym. The endorphin rush will see you through that 3pm slump and fine tune your focus so when you’re back at your desk, you can concentrate completely on the task at hand.

Eat well

Recover and refuel from that fitness burst with some delicious healthy to replenish your energy and reward yourself for a job well done! There’s so many simple and delicious post-workout options around the CBD, so we’re sharing some of our favourites with you.

Smoothies

If you’re a lover of the green liquid gold, then go no further than Gre3n Juice Bar on High St. With six different green smoothie options and three green juices made up of the freshest fruits and vegetables, the hardest part is making up your mind! Or check out TANK in Cashel Square for a range of delicious juices and smoothies, such as their incredible Strawberry Lush and Mango Zest. Other favourite smoothie haunts include Fruit Fusion on Hereford St which offers amazing green and fruit juices, smoothies, the perfect pick-me-up on a sunny day.

Healthy snacks

Whether you’re after a healthy salad or wrap, head back to TANK or check out the delicious offerings at New York Deli. If you’ve got time for a sit-down meal, one of our favourites is ArboCafe which has a range of yummy cabinet foods and healthy salads.

Or get yourself over to Kilmore Street and check out the range of nutritional, whole foods specialising in gluten free, dairy free and vegan options at the Herb Centre. Right next door you’ll find Piko Wholefoods who offer a delicious Piko Bowl of organic, plant-based bowl of creative deliciousness.

For a fresh, healthy workday lunch check out the central city's trendiest lunch offering, Piki Poke. Located at The Crossing, poke (pronounced po-kay) is a Hawaiian dish of marinated fish served with salad, rice and many other delicious tasty toppings. Amazing!
