The Physics Room

Within Christchurch Art Gallery sits The Physics Room, a contemporary art space dedicated to celebrating new and innovative works in New Zealand. The gallery plays an integral role in fostering a new generation of artists and is well worth a visit.

The beautiful newly restored modernist building that houses The Centre of Contemporary Art (CoCA), is well worth a marvel in itself, though it’s inside where the magic happens. The gallery plays host to a revolving seasonal programme of innovative, explorative, and sometimes confounding art.

The National

The National is a dealer gallery, specialising in jewellery and objects by local and selected international artists. This gallery has been at the forefront of the contemporary art scene in Christchurch for over a decade.

A fine art gallery with artist studio spaces, Chambers exhibits the work of leading and emerging local artists within a wide range of practises. The gallery’s attention is centred upon works that are skilful, conceptually rich, spirited and sincere.

Absolution provides wall space for emerging young artists. Ranging from works on paper to sculpture and everything in between, the black walls within the historic setting of The Arts Centre are utilised to work alongside the basis of absolutions core trade, body art at the highest level.

Tucked away on a side street behind South City Shopping Centre, Nadene Milne Gallery can be easily missed if you don’t know where to look. Representing many of Aotearoa’s most highly respected artists in a beautiful space, it’s well worth venturing out to this small gallery.
