Historic lodge wins heritage award
The owners of Otahuna Lodge, on the outskirts of Christchurch,
have been honoured for their commitment to maintaining one of the
Canterbury's most treasured heritage buildings.
Hall Cannon and Miles Refo, Americans who fell in love with the
historic lodge several years ago and who have invested millions in
restoring it to its former glory, have been awarded the
Christchurch Civic Trust's 2011 Supreme Award for the restoration
work they have done and for their ongoing contribution to
Canterbury's built heritage.
Otahuna Lodge, which was built by Sir Heaton Rhodes in 1895,
suffered damage in both the September and February quakes but the
owners were determined to repair it as quickly as possible and the
lodge has been now been restored to its former glory.
