Guests asked to help environment by forgoing room servicing
- May 2009 -
The Millennium Hotel Christchurch is "going green'' and has come
up with an innovative new way for its guests to help.
To mark its new partnership with the Untouched World Charitable
Trust and to affirm its commitment to reducing its impact on the
environment, the hotel has introduced a "Going Green'' door hanger
which gives guests staying more than one night the option of not
having their room serviced.
"After reviewing a number of guest surveys, feedback has
indicated that a daily service is not always needed. However, at
present there is no easy way to avoid this,'' says hotel general
manager Karen Wootton.
"This new initiative will do just that - make it easy. Guests
simply need to hang the card on the door handle on their way
out.''
Karen Wootton says savings made by the hotel as a result of the
Going Green initiative will be passed onto the Untouched World
Charitable Trust, whose activities are centered around providing
young adults with practical experiences, developing life skills,
and inspiring them to lead the way in achieving a sustainable
future.
"The Trust's environmental stance is a good fit with Millennium
Hotel Christchurch's 'Going Green' focus, and the partnership is an
exciting step forward.''
The Millennium Hotel Christchurch has a number of other options
for guests to assist them with their efforts to reduce their impact
on the environment, including recycling and waste disposal options,
linen and toweling services and power saving.
In addition to these initiatives, the hotel is 100% smoke free
with the entire building now designated non-smoking, offering a
cleaner and healthier environment for all guests and employees.
