Day 1, Peel Forest

From Christchurch, Peel Forest is a 90-minute drive and truly one of the South Island's best-kept secrets.

Stay at Peel Forest Lodge, a modern log home nestled amongst native bush, an ideal setting for relaxation and enjoying the native bird life.

Dine at unforgettable the Stonebridge Restaurant, a secluded retreat in a beautiful setting. This is a place of serenity, beauty, healing and harmony.

 

Day 2, Peel Forest

Enjoy a horse trek through some of the most tranquil countryside in the region, with morning tea provided after your trek.

Your host from Wilderness Adventures will pick you up and take you on an exciting half day Mesopotamia Station - Lord of the Rings Tour.

Later on in the afternoon visit the Medieval Mosaic (a recreation of the Bayeux Tapestry)

The Giant Jersey is another must-see, recognised by The Guinness Book of Records as the largest jersey in the world!

Dinner this evening is at Le Monde restaurant, with modern décor and award-winning chefs. This premier fine dining restaurant located on the piazza overlooking the stunning Caroline Bay

 

Day 3, Scenic Flights and Rock Art

Experience the Central South Island through a scenic flight with Air Safaris 50minute "Grand Traverse" flightseeing tour of Aoraki/Mount Cook and glaciers including Mount Cook, Mount Tasman, Tasman & Murchison glaciers. Air Safaris have been operating in the Mount Cook area since 1970 and are well known for providing tremendous value for money, great service and friendly staff.

Local Maori Rock Art provides a key to the history of the Maori heritage in the South Island, with one of the highest densities of rock art in the Central South Island region.

Head back to Christchurch, or inland to discover majestic Mackenzie country and Mount Cook.

AREA HIGHLIGHTS

The Medieval Mosaic, which depicts the Battle of Hastings in 1066, was created out of 1,500,000 pieces of spring steel, taking over 20 years to construct.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The smooth walls of limestone outcrops provided an ideal canvas for early Maori and although over 200 years old, many of the rock drawings in the gully have survived the elements and can be clearly seen.

VIEWS

If you have time before dinner make your way down to Caroline Bay to take a walk on the newly developed beach boardwalk or visit the famous Trevor Griffiths rose garden.
