Paddle boat or Kayak on the Avon
A classic Christchurch family outing is heading down to the Antigua Boatsheds and hiring a paddle-boat of kayak to explore the Avon river. Challenge your kids to a race or take your time enjoy the beautiful scenery around the gardens.
Get up close to amazing animals
Orana Wildlife Park is New Zealand's only open-range zoo. This park is an awe-inspiring outing to view lions, rhino, tigers and more. Plus you can also feed the giraffes!

Fancy a spot of mini golf? The city is full of fabulous spots to have a putt! Head to Caddyshack City where you get a lollipop on the last hole!
Ride the train
For something a little different head to the Halswell Domain and ride the Miniature Train. Open each Sunday (weather permitting), this ride is a must do for all those train fans out there.
Feed the animals
Kids love getting up close with animals, and Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is a great way for them to learn about native birds as well as seeing a lot of farmyard animals in person - you can even feed the eels!
