Hidden in Christchurch’s suburb of Addington is New Zealand’s largest and oldest theatre company. Situated in an old grain shed, is a magical world of happiness, laughter, drama and intrigue.
Everything from the sets to the costumes is designed and created in-house. The shows are produced exclusively for The Court's audience with some plays touring nationally and internationally.
The Court has something for everyone - for those who want entertainment king-sized and world-class, for those who want to sit back and enjoy a good laugh, and for those who expect theatre to challenge and spark debate.
A Court Theatre classic is "Scared Scriptless", improvisation at its best every Friday and Saturday night. The hilarious show will leave you doubled over in laughter!
Want a sneak peek behind the scenes?
Every two months there is a guided backstage tour showcasing everything from costume making to set painting.
Need a drink or something to eat?
If you have time before the show, grab a drink and a bite in the foyer of the theatre. BASE at The Court serves delicious woodfired pizza. During the winter months there's mulled wine on the menu, the perfect way to warm up!
