Convention Bureau Update

Thank you to those Convention Bureau Business Partners who joined us at our Business Partner Function at AMI Stadium last week, for those of you who couldn't make it (or a recap for those who could) we have some exciting news regarding the 2011 PCO Conference and a couple of big events coming up.

Christchurch wins 2011 PCO Conference

Christchurch has been chosen to host the 2011 Professional Conference Organisers (PCO) Association Conference and trade show. This prestigious annual event will attract between 200 and 300 PCOs, primarily from Australia, as well as sponsors, media and exhibitors. The bid was co-ordinated through Christchurch & Canterbury Convention Bureau (CCCB) and the event is to be hosted at Vbase's Christchurch Convention Centre. Christchurch's excellent infrastructure, reputation as the perfect host, location right in the heart of the South Island and the 'Christchurch Inc' team's can-do professional approach and friendliness all combined to make a winning bid. Our South Island location also appealed to the PCO Association, with so many opportunities for pre and post touring.

Bureau flying the flag at AIME

AIME (Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo), now in its 18th year is the leading event for the meeting and incentive industry, showcasing the best Australian, Asia-Pacific and international destinations, products and services. Leonie Ashford and Jan Whiteside will be flying the flag for the Canterbury region, the heart of the South Island at AIME 2010 in March.

Christchurch & Canterbury Convention Bureau will be part of the 100% Pure New Zealand section alongside the Vbase team, who look after the city's major venues - Christchurch Convention Centre, Christchurch Town Hall for Performing Arts, AMI Stadium and Westpac Arena. AIME gives us the opportunity to meet new buyers from all over Australia, face to face, in one spot. Last year's attendance at AIME resulted in excellent business for Christchurch & Canterbury and we are looking forward to the same this year.

New Canterbury Conferences and Events Expo 2010

The Canterbury Conferences and Events Expo 2010 will be held on 17 August this year and it will be the only major exhibition for the events sector to be held in Christchurch this year. CCCB has partnered with ProMag Publishing (publisher of Meeting Newz magazine) for the first time, a move which will ensure the expo has an expanded hosted buyer programme. In another first for the expo, the 2010 event will include buyers - sellers pre-scheduled appointment for all hosted buyers and for locals who request scheduled appointments.
