Akaroa Visitor Centre Update

Akaroa has experienced a season for all occasions this summer, with variable weather conditions similar to the rest of NZ.

Visitor numbers to the area have increased by up to 12% through the summer with a good mix of domestic, smaller European countries, the traditional UK and Australian market remaining positive.

Events during the period included the very successful Akaroa Music Festival, featuring local and international artists performing with guest Dame Malvina Major.

Two large and several smaller cruise vessels to Akaroa, have provided passengers with an experience of  a small historic village.

Waitangi weekend started with the celebration of the creation of the Takapuneke Historic Reserve. This was the result of many years of effort by the Onuku Runanga to have the area recognised. The Governor General was in Akaroa for the day's celebrations, along with a family day at Okains Bay.

After last year's Gold medal entry in the Ellerslie International Flower Show, Akaroa will be producing another exhibit featuring the lighthouse.
