Nestled above Robinsons Bay close to picturesque Akaroa, The Olive Grove is just an hour from Christchurch and is the perfect place to relax, indulge, explore and experience the unique atmosphere of the beautiful Banks Peninsula. The historic French village of Akaroa with its shops, cafes and restaurants is just five minutes away. Set in an established garden and working olive grove, the original bay villa was built in 1915 and extensively restored in 2004 when a second storey accommodation area was added. Traditional features such as pressed zinc ceilings and leadlight windows were retained. Guests enjoy spectacular harbour views from the outdoor spa pool, their balcony, bed and private bath. Wander through the garden and let the sound of the native birds take you back to the days when the surrounding area was Totara covered bushland. On cooler days, curl up in front of the open fire in our cosy guest lounge.

Directions

Take SH75 from Christchurch towards Akaroa. After around 1 hour you will enter Barrys Bay, Duvauchelle and then Robinsons Bay. In Robinsons Bay, turn left up the valley road (signed The Olive Grove and Historic Place). After 1km turn right into Sawmill Road.

Kaikoura Ultimate

The Kaikoura town ship is located on a rocky peninsula, protruding from farmland beneath the mountains.

In the waters off the peninsula, a complex marine system provides an abundantly rich habitat for marine mammals and seabirds. Several different species of whale can be seen off Kaikoura at different times of the year, but almost always the huge sperm whales. The orca is often sighted in Kaikoura, and schools of pilot whales are occasional visitors. Dusky dolphins and fur seals are plentiful.
